Record temperatures could burn the bookies!

Forget the old jokes about the rain – the heat-wave is causing trouble at Wimbledon this year! St John's Ambulance have been treating Centre Court spectators who forgot their straw hats - or maybe just had a bit too much Pimms…

And Wimbledon bigwigs might have to dust off the rule book and apply the 'extreme weather rule' – that allows female players a 10 minute rest if their match goes to three sets and the temperature is over 28 degrees celcius. But what about the men? They play five sets, you know!

Bookies always try to cash-in on the 'hot' topic of the day – but this time they might get burned…

Hot on the heels of the Met office's 'heat health' warning this week, Ladbrokes have put up 'British Summer Specials.' It's 7/1 the temperature rises above the current UK record of 38.5C (101.3F).

Weather experts say the heat-wave is set to go on all week. And the bookies are starting to sweat…

Ladbrokes reckon: "A nationwide gamble could seriously burn the bookies and see profits evaporate overnight.'
