Swine flu hits Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed 3 members of his squad are ill with swine flu. Rovers are due to play Peterborough in the Carling Cup tomorrow (Tues 27th Oct).

Allardyce's team lost 5-0 at Chelsea at the weekend – he said that Blackburn made no attempt to get that game called off as Premier League legislation earlier in the season had outlined all games must go ahead, regardless of any swine flu outbreak at the clubs.

Blackburn have now also confirmed Tuesday's game at home to Peterborough will go ahead. Club secretary Andrew Pincher said: "There has been speculation in the national media following confirmation of sickness within the camp but we can reassure all supporters that the tie will go ahead as planned."

However it would be no surprise if Blackburn fielded a weakened team for the Cup game – they have to play the reigning Premier League champs Man Utd at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson (who's Dad, Sir Alex is in charge of Man Utd) commented on Blackburn's situation:

"I'm sure it may disrupt them but we were only made aware of it this morning … We'll have to wait and see but we go there with the belief that we can get a result."

The current odds on Tuesday's game are 10/11 for Blackburn to win, 5/2 for the draw and 7/2 for a Peterborough win in 90 minutes. Blackburn are odds-on to 'Qualify From the Tie' at 2/5, with Championship side Peterborough a 9/4 shot.
