Rugby Union Betting - My 5/2 shot for the Aviva Premiership

8th October 2010

In Sports Betting Xtra today:

  • My 5/2 shot for the Aviva Premiership...
  • Insider members have got the bookies running scared...

This weekend's rugby action centres on Europe's top knockout
competition, the Heineken Cup...

Which means that England's top league the Aviva Premiership takes a
break - and that suits us just fine, because it means you can move
in for a great value season-long Aviva bet.

My 5/2 shot for the Aviva Premiership

The Aviva Premiership kicked off a few weeks ago, but the bookies
are still offering great odds for the team I reckon will win the
Regular Season title - despite them scoring a significant wins

Here's how they bet on the leading contenders...

Leicester 5/2
Northampton 5/2
Bath 5/1
Saracens 5/1
London Irish 8/1
12/1 bar these.

The Leicester Tigers won this last year by 2 points from
Northampton, and they have been the most successful side in English
rugby for the best part of two decades.

But the Tigers have lost some good men in the off season, including
England internationals Lewis Moody and Ben Kay, and that could just
make the difference in what is sure to be another hard-fought
Regular Season campaign.

Northampton had a great year in 2009 - finishing a hugely creditable
second in the league, winning the LV Cup (the Anglo Welsh Cup to you
and me) and making the last eight in the Heineken.

They have plenty of strength in depth and they can continue to
improve this year - as evidenced by their first game of the season
win over Leicester 27-19.

Bath had a roller coaster of a season last time. But they finished
like lions last year and have every chance of carrying that form
over to this season.

Saracens made an electric start to last season winning 9 of their
first 10 matches, but then slipped off that standard until launching
a late-season revival.
Although they won plenty of games I was never totally convinced
about Sarries, and odds of 5/1 here look about right.

London Irish finished sixth last year - but they were 21 points
behind the winners and have plenty of improving to do if they are to
challenge this year.

Betting against Leicester hasn't been a very good idea in recent
years, but with the personnel losses they've sustained, this season
might just be the time to do it - and I'll be taking them on this
time with Northampton, who are currently available at odds of around

My advice - Northampton to win the Aviva Premiership 'Regular
Season.' Find the latest odds here...

Insider members have got the bookies running scared!

The bookies have been running scared this week - frantically cutting
the odds on Tom McCarthy to win this year's Man Booker Prize...

Read all about it here...

McCarthy is my tip to win the prestigious literary award this year,
and I advised members to back him at standout odds of 11/5 in the
new October issue of my Insider newsletter, which came out on
Wednesday this week.

The bookies have since cut his odds dramatically - making McCarthy
the odds-on favourite (best price of just 8/11 at the time of

But Insider members are already on at the bigger prices...

And that's the approach I take with all my Insider bets - I get
members on the best bets, at the best prices, before anyone else. I
make sure members get the best value odds on all their bets - by
taking prices that are proved to simply be too big.

This simple method pays off time and time again - The Insider is now
its 10th winning year!

  • Take last season for example, when I tipped Portsmouth to be
relegated from the Premier League at 10/3 - before a ball had even
been kicked. Once Portsmouth's financial problems fully came to light and they were deducted points, they were short odds-on chances to go down - but Insider members had already snapped up the value and landed a 10/3 winner...

Don't miss out on my next big value bet...
